Grand Theft Auto
So, whether you are a fan of the game or think it is the worst product to hit the shelves, you probably have an understanding of it. Basically, you are a guy who runs around stealing cars and killing random people until you either get caught by the cops or die in some crazy manner(my favorite is being slung through the window after a high impact crash!).
My props go out to Michael McLendon, because yesterday, he achieved real life Grand Theft Auto. What happened, apparently this guy grabbed his favorite semi-automatic weapon(this could have been anything from a .22 cal. pistol to an AR-15) and went on a killing rampage. He killed his mother and four dogs(I bet PETA is pissed!), set fire to the house, and drove to his grandparents. There, he killed his grandparents, his uncle and aunt, a guy in the front yard, and a deputy's wife and toddler across the street. Apparently another kid was also shot, but not killed. He continued the spree by driving to a service station, killing two random people, and then heading toward his place of previous employment. There, he unloaded on cops then went inside and blew his brains out.
Gun Control
So before all you gun control freaks start yapping that yesterday's rampage was just another reason we need more gun control laws, lets look at what happened today in Germany.(By the way, Germany has more gun-control then almost any other country!)
This morning in a small town of Winnenden, Germany, Columbine wanna be, Tim Kretschmer, walked into his former school and blew away 3 teachers and 9 students in a 2 minute spray of fire. Then, in true Grand Theft Auto style, he went outside, shot a random guy, and hijacked a car, keeping its occupant hostage. Afterwards, he drove to the next town, kicked the hostage out, and killed two more people. There, he got in a bloody gunfight with police, injuring seven people before he was killed.
Afterthoughts
So with these shootings, I see gun control becoming a news worthy issue for congress in the next few days. My questions on this:
- Why does the media always emphasis "semi-automatic weapon"?
- How is it that an area that is strict as all get out on gun control has just as many, if not more, major school shootings as the US since 2002?
- How will more gun control help when schools, as well as most service stations and businesses, ban guns on their premises?
- Instead of targeting guns as the issue here, why don't we target trying to find out what causes people go on killing sprees, be it whatever weapon they use?
